Chuck Palahniuk

Palahniuk’s first novel, Fight Club , made him a cult figure. Fight Club was faithfully adapted into a very successful film directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Palahniuk has gone on to write Choke, Invisible Monsters, Survivor, Lullaby, Fugitives And Refugees , and most recently, Diary .

Palahniuk uses short punchy sentences, frequent drops into second person–a technique he calls ‘sub-vocalization’–and sentences that are repeated to create ‘choruses’, skills he honed in Tom Spanbauer’s weekly Dangerous Writing classes.

Like Kurt Vonnegut’s works in a previous generation, Palahniuk’s books are above all else sharp social satires. More personal and less overtly political than Vonnegut, Palahniuk has inspired legions of fans who wait outside bookstores for hours to attend his standing room only readings.

“Tom Spanbauer and his Dangerous Writing workshop gave me my new life as a writer.”–Chuck Palahniuk
